Meynard Tipawan beat Neuhausen 10–6. Rommel Janael Santos came back from 8–3 down to edge Manas 10–9, while Rodrigo Geronimo defeated Bustamante 10–0.
Defending champion David Alcaide opened with a 10–1 win over Rodlin John Bautista. World No. 1 Aloysius Yapp also advanced, beating Raphael Dabreo 10–2 to reach the last 64.
The tournament runs October 20–24. These are opening-day results, rather than the final standings, so there is still plenty of pool ahead.
