TAP League Nationals
How Do You Advance To A National Championship Event?
Licensees may have different ways of qualifying and advancing teams to the
National Championship Events.
Common Qualification Method
The most popular method is to hold a tournament made up of all qualified teams
from Summer, Fall of the previous year, and Spring of the current year.
Qualified teams are session winners during that qualifying period. For example,
if your team places in the top 3 for all 3 sessions, your team may have 3 chances
at the tournament — one for each session.
Advancing To Nationals
Winners of those tournaments advance for the trip to a National Championship Event.
Check with your licensee or league operator to see how many teams are sent and how
you qualify for the National trip in your territory.
The suggested guideline is that for every 18 teams, a licensee or operator has
1 team that can win a trip to Nationals.
Flexible National Formats
TAP is a flexible national organization and understands that what works in one part
of the country or Canada may not work in another area. Because of that, Titleholder
and National formats used to qualify teams and singles may vary.
National Products At TAP National Events
Various mini events are also run throughout the event. Times will vary depending
on the schedule of the main events.

Additional National Formats
TAP has added Scotch Doubles and 10-Ball to the National Tournament. These formats
now run in the same arena as 8-Ball, 9-Ball team, and singles events.
Qualification requirements may vary, so players should check with their licensee
to confirm how to qualify.
Dream Team Event
Held in the same arena as the TAP National Championship Event, the Dream Team Event
is one of TAP’s most popular formats.
This event was added in 2010 to give teams that did not qualify for the National
Championships — or areas whose team counts did not follow standard restrictions —
an opportunity to experience the National Event.
TAP National Welcome Party

The evening before the event, TAP Corporate hosts a Welcome Party for players and
licensees to enjoy. With the arena set up, players can play pool, eat, drink, and
meet people from other areas before the games begin the next morning.
Mingle around and meet your TAP family and friends from all over the United States
and Canada.
Our National History
TAP National Championships were created to be different — a traveling national event
that promotes amateur pool, entertains players and families, and brings TAP to new
locations across the country.
2002
Las Vegas, Nevada
TAP rolled into Las Vegas for the first TAP National Championships, hosted by
Palace Station. The event was successful enough that TAP accepted the invitation
to return again in 2003.
2004
New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans hosted the 2004 TAP National Championships at the Radisson on Canal Street,
right in the heart of great jazz and great food. A return was planned, but Hurricane
Katrina forced TAP to change course.
2005–2006
Louisville, Kentucky
Louisville, home of the Kentucky Derby and Louisville Slugger, hosted TAP Nationals at
the Galt House Hotel. The location was a great success, so TAP returned again in 2006.
2007
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Myrtle Beach hosted the 2007 National Championships at the Sheraton Convention Center
Hotel Resort. The location served players well, but TAP’s growth pushed the event toward
larger venues.
2008
Orlando, Florida
Orlando became the next stop for TAP Nationals. With Disney World nearby, it was a strong
family-friendly location. The host venue was The Caribe Royale.
2009
Charleston, South Carolina
TAP brought Nationals to Charleston for Southern hospitality, history, great food, and a
welcoming atmosphere. The event was hosted by the Embassy Suites & Convention Center.
2010–2011
Las Vegas, Nevada
TAP returned to Las Vegas after six years away, this time at Bally’s Casino and Hotel.
Players brought home great memories and good times from both years.
2012
Charleston, South Carolina
TAP returned to Charleston, calling in the invitation offered after the 2009 event.
Charleston continued to be a strong destination for TAP players and families.
2013
Chicago Area, Illinois
The 2013 TAP National Championships moved to the Chicago area at Pheasant Run Resort,
bringing the event to the windy city region.
2014
Dallas, Texas
Dallas hosted the 2014 TAP National Championships at the Hilton Anatole, continuing TAP’s
tradition of bringing players to major destination cities.
2015
Nashville, Tennessee
TAP headed to Nashville, Tennessee, with the National Championships hosted at the Gaylord Resort.
